Stolen Grey Boardman Hybrid Team - Stolen from Finnieston Area

Hello All,

My Boardman Hybrid Team was stolen from outside of the Nuffield Health and Fitness gym on Friday 17th May last week. The bike was locked up to the bike racks in the gym car park. The bike has black bar ends fitted, front and rear lights, a black plastic bottle cage and also had a hand pump attached. There was also a small blue saddle bag with a spare inner tube. The bike had shimano SPD pedals fitted.

I have registered the bike stolen with the police and have tried sites such as gumtree and ebay to see if it is for sale. Does anyone have any other advise about trying to retreive it? I am devestated to have lost it as I really loved the bike and it was my primary mode of transport.

Please keep a look out for the bike and any other advise is more than welcome

1950s CB 531 frame. 531 plain gauge guessing from the age and 26.4mm seat tube diameter.
There is one significant ding about a third of the way down the seat tube.
Forks are not original. I think they might be Raleigh, Gipemme fork ends.
Sizing is 55 ctc seat tube and 56 ctc top tube if I remember correctly.
Stronglight headset.
I'll include a 26.4mm seat post which you'll need to chop down. It won't go past the ding in the seat tube, but as this is so far down the tube it shouldn't pose any problem. The seat post is just really long!

I'm pretty sure this was a road frame and has been converted with track ends at some point. Brake holes front and rear. Clearances are nice and tight though.
The seat tube has been replaced, obvz! Do with it what you will - get it repainted, lacquered, or just ride it as it is for a bit. I liked the rat look.
It's 55 ctc seat tube and 56 ctc top tube methinks.

I would prefer to sell the whole bike for £250. However, I might split if there's enough genuine interest in parts.

I've never given any form of foot retention apart from ATAC clipless pedals any serious amount of time, but as summer looms I'm wanting to try something I can wear normal trainers with. Campag record on mavic sprint rims - interest?

I've got a pair of low flange 28h campag records (128mm road spacing, screw on) on mavic pro rims. Designed for 19-25c tubs

Front hub just serviced, perfect
Rear hub just had new axle, cones & dust caps, perfect
Rims straight and true, no rim wear but a few marks from being 30-40 years old.

Very light wheels, front is about 650g, rear is approx 750g
Anyone interested in a pair, or will I split them out?

I thought it might be a good idea to start a "spotted" thread to try and identify fixed and singlespeed riders.

Last night at about 10:45 I saw a man wearing a yellow fluoro jacket on a black singlespeed with bullhorns on Union street. He continued down Jamaica street onto Eglinton street and then onto Pollokshaws road which is where my taxi stopped. I wanted to shout glasgowfgss.com out the window at him but thought the people I was with would have me commited if I did.

I have for sale a Voigtlander Bessa R4a M Mount Rangefinder in excellent condition (black). This is the CV Bessa with 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm framelines. Shutter speeds and the rangefinder are accurate (aligned). Meter works 100%.

The body is in 'as-new' condition, not one mark to my knowledge as i've taken great care of it. Comes with body cap and brown leather case.
Ffordes in Inverness have been selling the exact same model in scruffy condition for £450 however, I am only looking for £350 for mine.

Geared: rear derailleur compatibility

Having written off my father-in-laws rear derailleur whilst doing a coast to coast, I'm looking for some advice. He rides with a triple up front, and an 8 speed cassette in the rear. It's all Shimano Sora on his bike.

I managed to get a spare Shimano 105 to put on it to get me through to the finish, but it's a short cage and only manages to get half of the gears on the thing.

The RD3500 (medium cage) is a 9 speed derailleur for triple fronts - would anyone be able to advise if I'm going to be able to use it on an 8 speed cassette?

[edit - I'll be putting a new chain on it too. Would I have a problem with an 8 speed chain, a 9 speed chain, neither, or both?]

Not that I'm doing it fixed, or even SS, but I figure this would be a good place to ask.

Looking to go from Glasgow > Skye > North Uist > South Uist > Oban (via ferry) > Tarbet > Jura/Islay > Tarbet > Arran > Ardrossan > Glasgow.

Any advice from other riders here who have done similar routes? I'll be going at a fairly leisurely pace, and I'm open to suggestions regarding places to stop/changing my route.

What do you think?

My Lumix GF-1 four thirds camera and lenses are now surplus to requirements and and would be gathering dust if they were not in a box in the top shelf of the bike room .

I bought it last summer for a specific video project and used it a couple of times since then as well as getting the image stabilized 14 to 42mm lens.

I paid £250 for the camera and 100 or so for the additional lens so delivered to you in UK for £ 275 for the camera, 14mm prime lens and the kit zoom.

It is nice to use and takes great images as well as very good video and apparently this is the model that will take the software hack to produce super quality video .

There is some video in low light by an inexperienced operative here :

Its bigger than a compact and a lot more versatile but much smaller than even the smallest DSLR

Interesting thread over on lfgss. A polish semi-industrial sized framebuilder who can kick out street/track frames for £99-£130 depending on design/paint/finish, and geometry is fairly adjustable within reason without incurring extra charges AFAIK.
I think mech_van is looking at getting one? So if a few of us in Glasgow get a frame made up on same order then could share postage up to us?

i cant believe im posting this on a bike forum ,,but anyway,i stay my self and obv do my own washing ,my washing machine has been getting used a fair bit recently (sweaty cycling kit )however ,when i take it out the machine and hang it to dry it smells a bit musty (all clothing not just cycling gear )its not bad when it dries out but it smells of nothing really i,i use ariel and then lenor so it should smell ok but all i get is a musty smell instead of the springtime garden it promises,its as if the machine just rinses that stuff out ,
most of the washing is at 30-40 degrees so does this kinda gum it up?i was thinking a coupla really hot washes would b the way to go ,,is it ?
whats the best ,throw a coupla towels in and boil the s*** out them ?

2 - 27" 40h rim, silver. straight and true, tyre free! slight flat spot. 27 1/4" tyres sit great on it. £8

3 - Shimano 600/DA high flange road hub (70s) on sprint rim with good tub (holds air forever), 600/DA QR in good shape, bearings mint, rim has flat spot but rides fine with a 23c on it, looks scruffy hence priced up as a hub only - £15

4 - Specialized 'control zone' 26" 32h eyeletted rim, black - came off a 2012 stumpjumper elite, straight and true, saw about 3 rides before the hub imploded - £5

5 - unknown fixed/free hub on omega rim - hub has no internals, two broken spokes, cog & lockring not included, if you have an axle/cones/bearings/two spokes/30minutes you've got yourself a reasonable hack wheel with no wear on the brake surface - £free or swap me something useful :P

6 - Normandy high flange on Mavic Monterey sprint rim, 36h, front, 'Hetchins' bike shop sticker. Just put a set of brand new Grade 10 bearings in there, smooth, true & round - £30

7 - Specialized stout disc hub rear wheel, 26" black - SOLD

8 - Schwalbe Ultremo ZX 700x23 - saw 500 miles road use and stupidly 3 hours turbo trainer use, so front mint, rear starting to square off - £18/pr

9 - Vittoria Rubino PRO slick 700x25 - seen about 1000 miles road use last spring/summer, don't like them in the wet, but in the dry they are pretty sweet - £12/pr

24 - Shimano SL-A400/Exage 7 speed SIS shifters - these were immaculate before I left them in a toolbox where it was obviously slightly damp, so surface is corroded but they function like new - kind of tempted to keep these for when I CBA'd with friction shift unless someone gives me £15

Im sure there is a thread about this somewhere and if there is can someone put up a link to it, i couldnt find it.
Im wanting to run a single speed and am looking to buy a high quality strong and hopefully reasonably light 3/32 chain...
Had a look at a sram pc1 and some of kmc stuff. Can anybody recommend something for me that they know and trust that meets my requirements.
One other thing, im running a ss specific chain ring, does this mean 8/9/10 speed chains are not an option or will they work as well...?
