Strava Usernames
  • Hey guys I know there is already a strava thread but thought it would be good to have a list of strava user names in one location so we could all follow each other. I'm nothing special but am enjoying the KOM challenges. Alternatively we could start a GFGSS strava club.

My user name is Danny Pedlow - simples
  • my user name is henry mckelvie
  • I am Grant Thomson and some **** just stole 2 of my KOMs .....
  • so angry about it I posted twice
  • gfss strava club is a great idea. I just created one.

  • oh and did my first ever 30 miler the other day, like a boss
  • a boss of a very small business
  • boss of a stall in the savoy arcade
  • username Mark Easton
  • boss of a stall in the savoy arcade

boss of a milk crate stall in the barras?

  • boss of a bag full of copied dvds in the laurieston
  • If you haven't already I recommend people go to http://app.strava.com/account/privacy and set up areas where strava will not record your location. Don't want people knowing where you live.
  • yeah i read about that, i'll do that now
  • ta euan, had no idea.
  • cheers Euan , though my gps doesnt usually kick in until im half way up springburn rd , which cheats me out of a mile on my distance grrrr :O
  • so i worked out how it's possible to do 100,000 feet in a month or whatever that challenge was! did 50,000 in the last week (well according to strava) in the alps.. turns out they're quite high.

    http://app.strava.com/athletes/davidking is me
  • curiously, i know people who say riding in the alps is easier than you think... and easier to get a lot of climbing under your belt. The roads are really smooth and well made.. plus the gradients arent insane?

He honestly said he found it easier than riding some of the larger hills in Scotland. Any truth to that?
  • yeah i would say so! we did nothing over about 13% max, but usually around 7 or 8. just very long. as long as you have the base fitness to turn your chosen gear at a useful cadence, you can just find your level and stick there - whereas plenty of times in scotland (beleach na ba/applecross springs to mind) i've had to be out of my comfort zone to keep moving.
Obviously you can hammer yourself if you want to, and it's easy to go too far and have to step back and recover for a bit.. but i think it's that option that makes the difference ;)

and the surface is mostly amazing! not looking forward to returning to our roads..
  • aye, see i rode some stuff in Gran Canaria a few years ago and couldnt believe the smoothness of the road. It just made keeping a solid cadence so much easier! But nothing like the heights of the alps.

Think i'll get a chance next summer of going to Switzerland for some riding. That could be pretty good! :)
  • think im getting a wee bit addicted, just done 60 miles but deleted the ride before i uploaded it, felt heartbroken haha
  • Are all you boys riding geared bikes?
  • e-mail their support and tell them you accidentally deleted a ride and they can recover it for you
  • mine is a geared cx bike but i've not being doing much since I knackered myself on the classic climbing challenge
  • mines a combo of road bike and my sscx bike. had a KOM taken off me last week and almost got it back again at the weekend on the pompino. with knobbly tyres inflated to 24psi and 38x18. been tempted to go out and take it back on the pompino after that.

there are also two KOMs right on my doorstep, but because they are within 250m of my flat I can't get them.
  • Most of my rides are on the commutocross bike but the longer ones are on the road bike. Think I've got one on the Cervélo.
  • it's ok grantus i got half of it back from my phone
  • it's kinda dangerous for spaceheads like me too, there's a sprint segment on haggs road at pollok park and i was trying so hard on it i didnt notice a pothole haha, cant believe i didnt fall off
  • trying so hard for that 5th best time....
  • addictive eh?!?

wonder what the next.challenge will be.....
  • Finally worked out how to get stuff from SportTracks onto Strava, so have loaded up my profile, although am still trying to get the hang of it!
    http://app.strava.com/athletes/doogie
  • Username; James Reilly
  • http://app.strava.com/challenges/rapha-rising-circle-of-death

latest challenge is up. 6,881metres in a week. Thats a tough one.
  • yeah ive signed up for it but im doubting ill actually do it, did the tak ma doon/ crow rd loop for the first time the other day, only made it about half way up tak ma doon and the ride total and wasnt even 3000ft!
  • then ted king posts a 15,000 footer on my dashboard and i go "oooooo ted ya cheeky wee pro scamp"
  • also my lowest gear is 42x27 on my seven speed so thats why i didnt make it up not my 86kg ass
  • aye, averaging around 3200 feet a day will be pretty tough. Still good to enter and watch yourself be trounced
  • also my lowest gear is 42x27 on my seven speed so thats why i didnt make it up not my 86kg ass

That's plenty low I do it 47-16 fixed Lols it's not as big and nasty as its made out
  • behave!!! 47-16 is a tendon shredder for the tak! ;-)
  • however, fair play if you do it and are not just willy-waving! I consider myself to be respectably mediocre and got up the steep side with a 39 inner ring and an mtb cassette on the back in 17 or 18 minutes. There is not a chance I could turn that gear on the steepest sections - you must have genetic freak legs like Schwarzenegger lol :-o
  • you should sell me some of your thighs jambo! i was absolutely burst trying to get up it!
  • or give me some of that EPO from the barras youre using ;)
  • and i was kinda joshing about the 42x27, it should be enough i just dont have the legs......yet!
  • It's easy when you get the van home though... ;-)
  • James didn't go up the Tak he went up the crow.
  • still impressive on 47 * 16. done the 'easy' side of the tak on 46*17 and was an horrific square pedalling grind-fest of patella pummelling proportions. never again....
  • Awe right thought you were talking crow rd my bad. we rode out to wheelcraft up the crow round towrads fintry then back past Carron resvoir then took the tak down into kilsyth where i jumped in the van lol!
  • still a cracking effort on fixed. The climb out of fintry up to the reservoir is under-rated IMHO
