Hey guys I know there is already a strava thread but thought it would be good to have a list of strava user names in one location so we could all follow each other. I'm nothing special but am enjoying the KOM challenges. Alternatively we could start a GFGSS strava club.
If you haven't already I recommend people go to http://app.strava.com/account/privacy and set up areas where strava will not record your location. Don't want people knowing where you live.
so i worked out how it's possible to do 100,000 feet in a month or whatever that challenge was! did 50,000 in the last week (well according to strava) in the alps.. turns out they're quite high.
curiously, i know people who say riding in the alps is easier than you think... and easier to get a lot of climbing under your belt. The roads are really smooth and well made.. plus the gradients arent insane?
He honestly said he found it easier than riding some of the larger hills in Scotland. Any truth to that?
yeah i would say so! we did nothing over about 13% max, but usually around 7 or 8. just very long. as long as you have the base fitness to turn your chosen gear at a useful cadence, you can just find your level and stick there - whereas plenty of times in scotland (beleach na ba/applecross springs to mind) i've had to be out of my comfort zone to keep moving. Obviously you can hammer yourself if you want to, and it's easy to go too far and have to step back and recover for a bit.. but i think it's that option that makes the difference ;)
and the surface is mostly amazing! not looking forward to returning to our roads..
aye, see i rode some stuff in Gran Canaria a few years ago and couldnt believe the smoothness of the road. It just made keeping a solid cadence so much easier! But nothing like the heights of the alps.
Think i'll get a chance next summer of going to Switzerland for some riding. That could be pretty good! :)
mines a combo of road bike and my sscx bike. had a KOM taken off me last week and almost got it back again at the weekend on the pompino. with knobbly tyres inflated to 24psi and 38x18. been tempted to go out and take it back on the pompino after that.
there are also two KOMs right on my doorstep, but because they are within 250m of my flat I can't get them.
it's kinda dangerous for spaceheads like me too, there's a sprint segment on haggs road at pollok park and i was trying so hard on it i didnt notice a pothole haha, cant believe i didnt fall off
Finally worked out how to get stuff from SportTracks onto Strava, so have loaded up my profile, although am still trying to get the hang of it! http://app.strava.com/athletes/doogie
yeah ive signed up for it but im doubting ill actually do it, did the tak ma doon/ crow rd loop for the first time the other day, only made it about half way up tak ma doon and the ride total and wasnt even 3000ft!
however, fair play if you do it and are not just willy-waving! I consider myself to be respectably mediocre and got up the steep side with a 39 inner ring and an mtb cassette on the back in 17 or 18 minutes. There is not a chance I could turn that gear on the steepest sections - you must have genetic freak legs like Schwarzenegger lol :-o
still impressive on 47 * 16. done the 'easy' side of the tak on 46*17 and was an horrific square pedalling grind-fest of patella pummelling proportions. never again....
Awe right thought you were talking crow rd my bad. we rode out to wheelcraft up the crow round towrads fintry then back past Carron resvoir then took the tak down into kilsyth where i jumped in the van lol!
