    image

  • yeah I think I posted that video on the youtube thread. wheels get destroyed pretty quickly
  • Nathan Barley?
  • nah, Nathan Barley is little bikes for cutting about London, these are for drifting down winding hills...
  • dont think we've got any roads smooth enough to do that on.. :|
  • That looks a bit lame. This is the real thing

    http://youtu.be/-5JHYt7n58E

Good documentary too, full version available on youtube.
  • that looks gnarly as fuck! gonna check that docu out too!
  • I thought all gravity sports were a dilution of skateboarding and therefore beneath your contempt?
  • the appeal as its pretty mario kart like
  • trike drifting is fuck all like skateboarding... I hate all the bastardisations of skateboarding.
  • Rollerblading I hate the most though....
  • bit of an eletist are we?
  • yeh... haha.
  • with rollerblading I just think they look really camp doing every trick, with their leg positioning. I have no doubt the tricks are mental and dangerous, they just look camp as fuck. plus the wheels are attached to the feet... thats cheating
  • fair play haha I cant say anything I absolutly loath scooters, and any skate or bike shop that stock them, bloody sell outs.
  • That looks a bit lame. This is the real thing

As stated before skate boarding IS the bastardisation
  • of......
  • Longboarding
  • What's a longboard?

    Its where skateboards came from
  • that doesn't explain anything? I thought skateboards came from surfboards? so are you referring to those longboards?
  • people were going downhill on long planks with wheels long before they had the idea of using empty swimming pools. It is not possible for longboarding to be a bastardisation it existed before.

you are like one of those really boring jazz fans
  • its not that i like longboarding its almost as bad as skateboardding in terms of pure and utter pointlessness
  • People were sidewalk surfing on planks with wheels, street skating. I think you should look at your constant replays before calling me the boring jazz fan. To say skateboarding is utterly pointless is moronic. If it wasn't for skateboarding and skateboarders, design, music, art would not be what it is today.

    Tit.

A very bold statement. Care to expland on that.
  • no. I can't be bothered with this any longer. your forum troll i'm sure can answer it i'm sure.

  • That's literally the funniest thing i have read on the forum.
  • I know.... It's probably the funniest thing I've started.... the fact he said 'expland'!!! hahahahahahahaha

you are right it is funny. then again so is your reaction to a genuine enquiry about examples of how skateboarding culture has influence and furthered modern culture. without it your statement is worthless.
  • I take that back, after watching this my life has been changed

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00d8w29
  • I just can't be bothered looking for online information regarding the validity of my statement. If you had a genuine interest in the subject matter you would know how much skateboarding culture has both influenced and been influenced by design, music and so forth. Ask any skater friends ( if you have any skater friends ) what their jobs, hobbies and passions are, I bet they are all creative. Most people I grew up skating with have similar themes of work. Even people I know through music, later on I found out they were skateboarders. Ask the skateboarders on here what they do.
  • dogfood
  • to be fair, he did not bad to be able to stay on that long... plenty fall off well before then.
  • Oh how about I know nothing about skateboarding besides the names Mullen, Hawks and Busenitz? And the only reason I know Busentiz is because I like his collabs with Addias seeing as they are just chunky versions of their indoor football shoes. Thats as far as my understanding of skateboarding culture goes. If you cannot even provide the simplest references to backup your statement then your argument is trash. Simple as.

Your logic that these people are what they are because of skateboarding is utterly flawed. I know plenty of artists, designers, writers and musicians and skateboarding has fuck all to do with their work in their work or who they are. So if I was to make the same deduction as you I can state skateboarding has had fuck all of an influence on modern culture.

I'm actually going to go further and say it is a detriment, seeing as talent people have wasted their time doing fuck all with their life besides playing with a bit of wood someone has nailed plastic wheels to.

    ok your right.
  • That strikes me as a bit of a "yes dear, what ever you say dear" type of surrender.
  • It is. I just can't be arsed, no matter what I say will come up for confrontation. It's easier to just quit.
  • Nah if you actually back up your claims there is no confrontation, only discussion. You turned it into a confrontation.
  • I am still awaiting an explanation to how much comment about all skating being pointless is any more moron than your statements about anything that isn't street skating. Then i would quite like to hear your opinion on bmx, mountain bikes, geared bikes in general as they quite clearly fall into bastardisation of the very first bike.
  • As for confrontation its you decided to start throwing the insults.
  • And if you are going to bring up typos its 'you are' or 'you're' it is however never 'your'
  • Settle down ladies
  • Do what makes you happy, live and let live.
I ride a silly bicycle with thin tyres and a FIXED GEAR (?!) around town, I also like to ride a long bit of wood with plastic wheels down long hills, I also like to climb up cliff faces in summer and winter to no point other than for the sheer thrill. I sometimes even play my guitar knowing full and well I'll never be as good as hendrix.

My point is, no one in this discussion/confrontation is right. You can't possibly be right. There's no valid question to be answered! Is skatebaording good? If it makes a group of people happier in life, helps them socialise or even just gives them purpose, I say fuck yeah! Have fun, enjoy life, stay safe.
