Bike Porn
  • So I thought we should start off a bike porn thread. Every other fixed gear forum on the planet has one so why shouldn't we. I'll start off with some oldies My favourite items of bike porn from the back room collection.

Remember the rules. Don't post your own bike in the bike porn thread.

  • Some really beautiful bikes here. I love that last one in particular, the 'Reminton' - googling says that's a Japanese Keirin frame, right?
  • NJS frame I think.

this was built for pope john paul II but for some reason he never rode it. full article here -

  • That's awful about the Pope not riding the bike. It seems he was very grateful for the gift but just didn't want to ride it because it wasn't his preferred type of bike. Nice bike though. I'd like to restore a vintage Cinelli or Colnago one day. With period correct Campagnolo groupset, wheels, tyres, contact points. The lot.

found this vid on youtube of the mash SF guys out riding with lance armstrong. must of been a pretty sweet day out.
  • Here's a few bikes I quite like. They're Hufnagels.

  • i'd be up for a threesome to be honest........
  • Speaking of porn. When's the Bob going to be unveiled?
  • I was thinking the same.

Also, what is the delivery time on a Bobby J?

Hohoho you're getting tempted. For an off-the-peg vigorelli I think the delivery time is quite quick I think.

    ps. This is pure speculation.
  • I know Mercians waiting list is near the 5 month period at the moment.
I'm just considering my options for when the time might come.
  • i waited three weeks for mine. if they don't have one in stock or you want anything fancy paint wise, it's around six weeks.

i'm going to get the wheels built next week and then it's a case of putting it together.......i still need a seatpost and a front brake caliper........and i may have a change of heart over the pedals - campag record clipless instead of the mks i have already........decisions! so - i'd guess within the next month.
  • Campag clipless? Why? I know it's Record but it's not an industry standard. Why not just get the best Look Keo pedals you can buy? or MKS RX-1s!

aye - there's decisions to be made. i already use look keo on my other bikes.......i'd like an excuse to buy new shoes though.........i'll be using the mks with clips until i decide probably.
  • Yeah I'd be looking for something pretty stock if I was. Are they still about £350 or a bit more now?
  • i think so - it might be worth just giving them a call. i think for a standard vogorelli f&f it was £345. (postage was about £19 on top.)
  • Temptation.
  • We'll see how this insurance claim will go. But I see a blue frame with white lug lining in my future.
  • I've found I've been liking the Langster Monaco edition the more I see it. I'm just a sucker for the livery
  • i love my langster. it's such a comfortable bike to ride.
  • I don't doubt it.

But what about the Bob Jackson? That is what I want to know.
  • bob jackosn still requires wheels to be built and a seatpost and front brake caliper.

i'm back to work soon so it'll more likely be the summer before bob comes out to play. :-)
  • I'll have one before you do at this rate.

I specced up my dream build last night. Pricey, but I have cheaper subs for ever part.
  • Care to share the specs?
  • when i specced the bob jackson up it ended up being a very similar build to the paul smith mercian..........just about £1200 cheaper.

i have about five dirfferent dream bikes going on my head at any one moment!

so euan - what's the specs?

I'm in a similar position. These currently include:

    [ulist]
    [li]Mostly NJS keirin frame bike[/li]
[li]Vintage Campagnolo equipped Cinnelli Olympic (track only / tubs and all)[/li]
    [li]105 equipped Colnago Master X-Light[/li]
[li]Dura Ace equipped Colnago C50 with Zipp 404s[/li]
    [/ulist]

That's about £15,000 in bikes there.
  • Sugino 75 cranks
Phil Wood front and rear hubs + Phil Wood sprocket
    Phil Wood bottom bracket
    Mavic Open Pros probably.
Everything else as the Mercian, except maybe the titanium Rolls saddle and a Nitto seatpost. Not sure about the brakes to be honest.

    Nae Chris King.
  • Don't I know it. This is all I did when I was sat on my ass unable to do anything but watch shitty TV.

Total comes to like £550 or so and result in a bike I'm too afraid to ride.
  • The obsession continues. No need to ask whether it's the hat or the young lady that attracted you there...

  • I didn't realise that it was an NJS hat.

She looks like she needs a good nights sleep.
