It's magnetic with a digital head unit that measures power. Huvane used it for ages - need to look out tonight to see if I can find the cadence sensor for it as well - don't normally bother with cadence so need to hunt the drawers for that bit.
It can be quite noisy. Not sure if you live in a flat you may be better with a fluid one?
yeah ,i live in a flat and noise is a concern ,iv heard that some are like a jet engine ,but put some pics up ,fuck the neighbours
It's the fan ones that are noisy. They're also the most road-like. Magnetic and fluid are similar noise levels but shit magnetic ones give a crap feel. This one I think does some magic with electromagnets to give you a really good feel.
not trying to scupper any deals here, but the power reading on the Flow is notoriously unreliable so is not a good measure of power output. it varies between sessions and also drifts within sessions my mate brought his over last friday & we did a test if his flow with my Powertap the flow overread significantly, reading ~240W when the PT read ~180W and the flow read ~400w when the PT read ~300w. so take flow readings with a pinch of salt.
To be honest, i preferred the feel of my Tacx Satori to the Flow.
It's hard to say about noise really, a bit subjective. My other half moans when I use it in the kitchen and she canny hear coronation street.
As for the power. I'm a high twenties 10 minute tt rider and using online bike calculators it gives you an indication that this requires about 200-210W. I can do a 230-240W effort on the Flow for this amount of time which would suggest a perhaps 30W over estimate of power.
However, it's all relative. As long as I made sure the resistance to the back wheel was constant then I found the power readings to be consistent.
A google will show you that the 30W over estimate seems to be typical of the Flow's power estimation. Perhaps your Powertap needs calibrated Gerry ;-)
power readings are a thing i dream of lol, prob not enough to power a 60 w bulb for me :D .iv b een told that a certain person on here can sprint at 1500 watts or thereabouts ! :O
