Saturday Morning Ride Club
  • i'm still game if I wake up in time. if anyone feels like giving me a wakeup call before they leave the house, i
  • Will do.
  • i can give you a wake up call at around 8 if you like or is that too early?

edit - rusty is on the case!
  • I had a nice train and bus ride up from Liverpool instead. Delightful.
  • was good fun today although my face is still frozen
  • i have finally thawed out enough to type. it was nice once the sun came out and my water bottle thawed enough to drink..........

edit - what about that donkey on the skoda estate?!
  • it's that time again!

    anyone going tomorrow?
  • I now have a throat infection, to go with my man flu. Not slept properly for 4 nights:( Been driving me round the bend. Now have some antibiotics so hopefully be back on the bike before too long!
  • I'll be there tomorrow morning. Usual place, usual time. Although I propose we meet at Willy Bain's shop in future if we're doing a southside run. Cuts out some of the traffic. For north rides maybe Gear bikes would be a good meeting place.
  • Can I come too?

Usually I'm looking after the kids on a Saturday morning, but not tomorrow. Is the usual place the north east corner of George Square and the Usual time 10:00 am?
  • Really doesn't feel like a Friday... Have fun y'all, as ever. Back to the grindstone for myself.

Great to have new faces out. 10:00am at the north-east corner of George Square (outside the city chambers).
  • Rusty likes it when you knock into him straight from the off don't be going easy on him. He told me he hates going slow :P
  • I like going slow, maybe I should be going out with the CTC instead.
  • I like going slow too - rusty likes EPO for breakfast.
  • sorry gents - i wont make it today - i've got a case of the man flu/ throat infection coming on. i felt it a little yesterday but it's much worse this morning. hopefully i'll shake it off soon. have a good ride everyone!
  • After Eaglesham I ended up taking a mad turn and decided I was going to try and make it to Moffat. The wife and kids were coming up the road from Yorkshire so the plan was to meet there. I ended up meandering a bit and got as far as Abington. I would have gone all the way to Moffat but Amanda had beaten me there.

    Eaglesham
    EastKilbride
    Strathaven
    Stonehouse
    Larkhall (outskirts)
    Blackwood
    Happendon
    Abington

Mapped it on the Nike Map it thing and it looks to be about 90km all in.
  • Rusty, I meant to ask, where do you get your EPO? I think I'll need to have some for breakfast the next time.
  • Fair play! Moffat is nearly England!:)

You should see Angus when he's going. On Monday I was getting away from him in breaks but I think his performance is still a few rungs up the ladder on me.
  • I've never seen Angus actually try............
  • This weekend I propose a nice jaunt out to Balmaha instead of the usual Eaglesham Moors road. We'll be departing from the south-west corner of Royal Exchange Square (by Starbucks) at 10:00am.

  • i like this idea, i think your map link is gubbed
  • i like it too but i'm going to climb some mountains this weekend. if the weather is truly rubbish, i'll be back on friday instead of camping and doing more on saturday so may still make it.

    Fixed
  • While I like it too I don't think I'm quite fit enough at the moment to do a 44mile ride.
  • It'd be a bit of a beast to do it fixed/ss. I was thinking of a little café stop in Blamaha.

you'll have no problem. the first SMRC i attended i did 60 miles fixed and hadn't ridden for 4 months. I'm not exactly trim either.......

Understatement. Its hilly wee route. I am doing the Gartmore route on Saturday. Milngavie up to Aberfoyle and back via Gartmore would welcome some company:)
  • I might be up accompanying you to Aberfoyle this week and doing Balmaha next week. When do you intend on leaving?

9-9.30 departure. Definate cafe stop along the way maybe even two!
  • Sounds good to me. A nice 8:30-9:00 departure for me to get to Milngavie. You decide on the meeting place.

i can make this now - my walking partner (and driver) has ruined his ankle at work.

i'll get the train in and meet you then we can ride out of the city together.

i can get a train that gets me into central at 0840 - will that be okay?

Fair play Johnny. It will take around 45 mins from the city centre out to Milngavie.

Do you guy's know the way out to Milngavie?
  • i do not - i'm guessing up maryhill road and follow the signs.................

as long as you don't mind the slightly later 0930 departure of course.

i'm looking forward to the cafe stops!
  • Yeah thats right Johnny. I don't mind a later departure would prefer to leave before 10am is all.

I will whisper my number to you if you get lost or whatever I will come meet you.

You want to head for Milngavie town centre, shopping precinct. There is an obelisk in the middle of it which heralds the start of the West Highland Way.

I will meet you there between 9.30-10.00 am.
  • Perfect - I have been to the said obelisk and the least magnificent start to any trail i've ever seen (a pissy alleyway between some shops!)
  • I know the way so if we meet at central station at 8:45am then we can ride up together.
  • okay - i'll be the one that looks like johnnyhotdog at the main door.
  • im going to have to miss this one, im djing until 3am on saturday so a pre 9am wakeup seems a bit daft..
    Have fun
  • not that i was planning to come along but the weather for saturday according to the BBC website (never the most reliable i know) is heavy rain.
  • Are you men or mice? A bit of rain just saves on the need for a shower afterwards.

Said safely in the knowledge that I can't come either way, so I can talk whatever antagonising rubbish I want...
  • i've never seen a rusty man........we're not made of sugar.......skin is waterproof.......etc
  • *looks at forecast and winces*
  • Pah! Easy.
  • rabsda... Not part of the thread but where you play tunes..?
  • various places but tomorrow it's at a night called one more tune, in blackfriars basement:

  • Todays meeting of the SMRC was savage. My legs are fucked. Nearly came off a couple of times with the wind. Hardcore:)

My light stopped working on the last eight miles. I didn't notice and nearly got killed. That was the best bit of the ride.

Merak, Rusty - you are my new heroes! There are very few people i could have done that ride with without having a massive and catastrophic sense of humour failure!
